The COLLEGE FUND LIFE DIVISION of Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee and The COLLEGE FUND LIFE DIVISION of The MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company have a history of service dating back to a small southern insurance company founded in 1967 in Norcross, Georgia. Southern Educators Life Insurance Company built an excellent reputation in five southern states by helping families plan for their children's higher education.

In 1993, UICI, a publicly owned financial services company, recognized the tremendous potential offered by Southern Educators' unique insurance product and acquired the company with national expansion in mind.

In 2006, UICI became a privately held corporation and changed it's name to HealthMarkets, Inc.

Two of HealthMarkets insurance companies, Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee and The MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company have expanded the concept from coast to coast through their COLLEGE FUND LIFE DIVISION.

Both insurance companies are rated A- (Excellent) by A.M. Best. A.M. Best is a rating prepared by independent analyst who evaluate and rate the financial strength of insurance companies. The A- (Excellent) rating is the 4th highest of 16 ratings.
